University Specialist Certificate in Medieval Music Research and Performance

Medieval music is one of the principal pillars of western music. As such it is of great interest to musicologists, performers, composers, instrument makers, philologists, and cultural historians. Yet, music schools, conservatories, or universities rarely offer any in-depth courses or programs dedicated to its study. To remedy the lack of any focused training in the subject, MMB in conjunction with the University of Lleida have designed a “University Specialist Certificate” program composed of specialized courses on various aspects of medieval music. The courses provide students with the knowledge to conduct comprehensive research on different medieval musical subjects, notations, sources, and repertoires with a primary focus on performance practice. The program is presented in a virtual format, and it is comprised of 15.5 ECTS credits divided between required and elective courses.La música medieval es uno de los principales pilares de la música occidental. Como tal, esta es de gran interés para musicólogos, intérpretes, compositores, constructores de instrumentos, filólogos e historiadores culturales. Sin embargo, las escuelas de música, los conservatorios o las universidades rara vez ofrecen cursos o programas dedicados a su estudio. Para subsanar esta falta de formación, MMB junto con la Universidad de Lleida han diseñado un programa de “Título de Especialista Universitario” compuesto por cursos especializados en diversos aspectos de la música medieval. Los cursos brindan a los estudiantes el conocimiento necesario para realizar investigación sobre diferentes temas musicales medievales, notaciones, fuentes y repertorios con enfoque principal en la práctica de la interpretación. El programa se presenta en formato virtual y consta de 15.5 créditos ECTS repartidos entre asignaturas troncales y optativas.
