Lifelong Learning Master's Degree in Ecological Architecture and Advanced Construction II

Presentation

The Master in Ecological Architecture and Advanced Construction is a 9-month immersive postgraduate program focused on learning advanced technologies to design and build a new generation of ecological buildings.
The program takes place at Valldaura Labs in Barcelona, a 135-hectare site located in the Collserola forest. Here, students will live and work surrounded by nature, using the most advanced design techniques and technologies, in line with the IAAC's long-term initiative to create self-sufficient and ecological environments.
During the first five months, students receive comprehensive training in ecological architecture through various seminars and studies, where they learn about the different systems of a building—such as structural, thermal, and metabolic systems—and gain practical experience with advanced construction tools that allow them to analyze, simulate, and manufacture their designs with digital technologies.
After acquiring these skills and a holistic understanding of ecological architecture, students collaborate on the design and construction of a full-scale prototype ecological building in the last four months.
The program is aimed at architects, engineers, designers, artists, makers, and graduates from any discipline related to the creation of the built environment. It is developed in collaboration with leading global companies and experts in the industry, with the aim of training professionals capable of leading the design of green buildings around the world.

The second year of the master's program offers each student the opportunity to deepen their knowledge of advanced technologies while conducting research aligned with their career and industry needs. Taking advantage of the IAAC's infrastructure, experts, and network of industrial partners, each student will be able to lay the foundations for their professional career, whether academic, industrial, or in a startup. Each student's research is organized around different research clusters that are redefined each year by the professors, combining the interests of the students and those of the industrial collaborators.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor Degree: Architects, engineers, designers, material engineers, mechanical engineers and other related carreers. The Master programme is oriented towards engineers, architects, artists, makers, designers, biologists, ecologists and graduates from any discipline related to the crafting of the built environment. The programme is oriented at graduates who wish to commit and develop their design research skills in the context of new forms of practice within architecture and urbanism, ranging from large-scale environments to tectonic details and material properties. Application process: Applications are considered on the basis of an assessment of the quality of prospective students, their motivation, skills and previous academic achievements. Candidates are encouraged to give details of their motivation to study any particular programme. Once applications are reviewed, candidates will be invited to an online interview with the IAAC academic coordinator of the program. IAAC applications can be submitted each academic year. To apply for any of our educational programmes, the applicant must fill out the online application form. For the online application, the following required documents should all be submitted in English, with the exception of the undergraduate diploma that needs to be translated into Spanish. (All documents must be uploaded onto the designated space on the online application form in PDF format). For more information on the process, please visit www.iaac.net
